Emily's story in her own words: How her vision board changed her life around.
Emily
In August 2023, I attended a vision board workshop with Vanessa from Vision Boards for All, hosted by the Chichester Young People’s Shop.
At the time, I was navigating a challenging period in my mental health journey. I have autism and ADHD, and spent the may of my younger years battling complex issues, feeling isolated and trapped, and lacking self-confidence and belief in my abilities.
The workshop was one of the first times I felt that maybe I should believe in myself and my future. It provided a creative and empowering space to reflect on what self-love meant to me and helped me to visualise a more positive path forward.
The vision board I created that day is still displayed in my home, right above where I get ready each morning. It serves as a daily visual reminder of my worth and my goals. Looking back, that workshop stands out as a moment of clarity in my recovery journey—a time when I realised I was capable of more than I’d allowed myself to believe.
Shortly after the workshop, I started a new job with the Aldingbourne Trust, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autism. The confidence and clarity I gained from the workshop played a part in helping me take that step forward.
Now, I’m organising a series of workshops to promote mental health and wellbeing through art and literacy, and I’m thrilled that Vanessa will be delivering a vision board session as part of this initiative. Having the opportunity to work with Vanessa to deliver workshops to others feels like a full-circle moment for me.
Reflection on Emily’s Testimony
🎨 Her Experience
The workshop gave Emily a creative and empowering outlet, helping her reflect on self-love and visualise a brighter future. For the first time in years, she felt a spark of belief in herself. realised she wasn’t genuinely excited about relocating but felt compelled to "escape" unresolved feelings tied to her past and current relationships.
🏡 The Impact
The vision board Emily created still holds pride of place in her home, reminding her daily of her worth and goals. It became a beacon of clarity and confidence, helping her take life-changing steps—including starting a new job with Aldingbourne Trust, supporting adults with autism and learning disabilities.
✨ Full Circle Moment
Today, Emily is organising her own workshops to promote mental health and wellbeing within her new role at Aldingbourne Trust and has invited me to lead a session as part of her initiative. Sharing her story of growth and transformation through vision boards is such an honour.

🌟 Emily, thank you for inspiring us all to believe in the possibilities ahead. 🌟
Not all dreams and goals are meant for us, as every dream or goal will have a consequence attached. What vision boards can do is allow ourselves to dream and then take those dreams to have a go at bringing them to life - playing, experimenting, planting them in reality, like seeds in the earth and seeing which ones take root.
That’s what it is to be the CEO of your own life, you can fire and hire what know longer serves you.
You get to stay curious about your life, be open to change and be aware what stories you are telling yourself, when you allow yourself to be open you are more willing to do it differently, this helps when you can be kind to yourself to see if fear is running the show or you.
Creating your unique blend of success will change through the years.
That’s why your vision board helps to see how far you have come, it’s the importance of embracing failure or what’s not for you, as that’s an essential part of the journey and the joy of allowing yourself to do things imperfectly.
If you haven’t already and get ready to dream, play and create a life that you love and feel proud of in 2025.
